Anno Domini

Anno Domini Beats - Against Time (lyrics)

Job 27:10-11

Can they take delight in the Almighty?
Can they call to God at any time?
I will teach you about God's power.
I will not conceal anything concerning the Almighty. (NLT)

1 Timothy 4:1

Now the Spirit explicitly says that in the last times some will turn away from the faith by paying attention to deceitful spirits and demonic instructions. (NAB)

I've never given much thought to the date. The days of the week, the months of the year, the year itself. However, Much of the labels we use to describe today come from religions long lost and almost forgotten. The need to communicate time supercedes our queasiness, but the fact remains that every time we write a date in long form, we're paying homage to 2 or 3 Gods. The final portion of a longform date, however, is Christian in origin and is Christian in content. The A.D. is well known to mean anno domini or "year of our Lord".

However, recently, I became aware that the last item in any date (the era: A.D. or B.C.) was recently changed, so as to keep from offending peoples of other religions. What? What about Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday,
Saturday, January, February, March, April, May, June, and July? All of these Time-related terms refer to gods of their time. Should we stop using them as well? Could we stop using them and still be able to say what today is, or when we plan to meet?

I will write the date from now on in numeric form only, but including the A.D. every time. Anyone who suggests otherwise will get told it is religious reason. Realistically, it remains impossible to stop using the months or days in conversation, but I'm open to suggestions.
